What is required in order to create a website?
To create your website, you will need two essential components: a domain name and web hosting. A domain name is your web address (e.g., amitywebsitedesign.com), and web hosting is the service that stores your website files and makes them accessible online.
What is a domain name?
A domain name is the web address that users type into their browsers to access a website. When you register a domain name, you gain exclusive rights to use it for a specified period, typically one year. It is important to renew it promptly to avoid losing it. We recommend reputable registrars like Namecheap, GoDaddy, and Domain.com.
What is website hosting and why do I need it?
Website hosting is a service that stores and manages all the files, data, and content related to your website on a server. When someone enters your domain name into their browser, the hosting server retrieves and delivers your website files. Hosting pricing typically ranges from around $10 per month for basic plans. We recommend SiteGround, Bluehost, and A2 Hosting.
Do you host websites?
Yes. We rent servers from established hosting companies and manage them for you, and your site's files live on those servers. Because we pay for that capacity in advance, hosting is paid in advance too: hosting invoices are due on receipt and must be paid before the period they cover starts. If a hosting invoice isn't paid by then, the site can go offline until it is, and after 30 days unpaid the hosting is treated as ended. The full hosting terms are in our Terms & Conditions.
How does the payment process work?
We offer two payment models. Our standard is 50% upfront before work begins and 50% when the site is finished, before launch. If that doesn't work for you, we can instead agree a payment plan of up to 6 monthly installments, set in writing before work starts. If you choose hosting or a maintenance plan, it starts on launch day and the first month is invoiced together with the final balance. The deposit reserves your spot in our schedule and covers the first phase of work, so it is non-refundable. If a project is cancelled before it is half finished, we refund any payments beyond the deposit for work we haven't done yet; once a project is half finished or more, payments are non-refundable. The full payment, cancellation and refund terms are in our Terms & Conditions.
When do hosting and maintenance start, and when are they billed?
On launch day. The day your new site goes live is the day your hosting and maintenance plan starts, and the first month's invoice is sent together with the final project invoice. Both are due on receipt, before launch. If launch is waiting on something from your side for more than 14 days after the site is finished, the plan starts on that 14th day, since the finished site is already sitting on our server and being kept up to date. Each month after that is billed in advance on the same day of the month. Paying an invoice late doesn't push the start date or the billing day back: the site is being hosted and looked after from launch day, so that time is owed either way. Square sends up to four automatic reminders for an unpaid invoice, and those are the only reminders we send. For an existing site, the plan starts on the day you sign up or the day we get access. The full terms are in our Terms & Conditions.
How much does a website cost?
Our Starter package begins at $1,000 for small websites up to 5 pages. The Professional package is $3,500, the Premium package is $5,000, and E-Commerce websites are custom-quoted based on your specific requirements. We provide accurate quotes after discussing your project.
How long does it take to create a website?
Timelines vary based on the scope of the project — number of pages, features, custom design work, and how quickly content and assets come together on your end. After our initial consultation we provide a clear timeline and milestone schedule, and we keep you updated throughout the build.
What will my website be built on?
We build websites using modern technologies including Next.js, React, and WordPress depending on the project's needs. For e-commerce, we use Shopify or WooCommerce based on your specific requirements.
What is WordPress?
WordPress is a popular website creation platform, powering over 40% of all websites worldwide. It offers great flexibility through its library of themes, plugins, and customizable features. Its user-friendly interface makes it accessible to individuals with varying levels of technical expertise.
What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
SEO is the strategic practice of improving the visibility and relevance of a website in organic search engine results. Effective SEO involves technical optimizations, on-page optimizations with relevant keywords, and off-page strategies like building high-quality backlinks.
What is responsive web design?
Responsive web design refers to designing and developing websites that automatically adapt their layout and functionality based on the device and screen size. A responsive website ensures optimal viewing across desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
When does the project timeline start?
The clock starts when we have your materials — logo, photos, text, and anything else the project needs. The easiest approach is to gather everything in one folder (Google Drive works great) before we begin. If you don't have content ready, that's fine too: we can help with copy and source professional images, we just plan for it up front. One honest note: every delivery estimate depends on how quickly feedback and files come back to us. Days waiting on a review are days added to the timeline, so the fastest projects are always the ones where we hear back promptly.
When is the website considered finished?
The website is finished when everything in the project scope we agreed on at the start is built and working — pages, features, forms, the lot — whether it is still on a preview address or already on your domain. That's the completion date, and that's when the final invoice is due. Launch is a separate step: if going live is waiting on something from your side (review, approval, content, domain access, or a reply), the final invoice doesn't wait with it. Small styling tweaks and fine-tuning are a normal part of wrapping up, and we're happy to handle them through your included revision rounds — but they happen alongside final payment, not before it. This keeps projects from staying open forever over details, which is better for everyone.
What happens if I need to pause my project?
Life happens — businesses get busy, priorities shift. Just let us know and we'll work out a plan. If we don't hear from you for about 30 days, the project is paused and comes out of our active schedule; picking it back up depends on availability at that time. After around 90 days of silence a project is considered abandoned, which is treated like a cancellation: the deposit is kept and the cancellation fees in our Terms apply. We keep your project files for another 90 days in case you come back. After that, files are permanently deleted and restarting means beginning fresh. We send you an email before the project is paused, and the full details are in our Terms & Conditions.
What if I need to cancel or miss a meeting or shoot?
Just give us notice: at least 24 hours for a meeting or call, and 48 hours for a video shoot or on-site visit. A meeting missed or cancelled later than that is billed as one hour. A shoot or visit missed or cancelled late is billed at 50% of its fee, plus any travel or ferry costs already spent, unless your proposal says otherwise. Weather and safety cancellations are rescheduled at no charge. The free first consultation is never billed. The full details are in our Terms & Conditions.
How do we get started?
Simply head over to the Contact page and fill out the form with your name, email, and a brief message. We'll get back to you promptly to discuss your specific needs in detail.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. All invoicing and payment runs electronically through Square — you get the invoice by email, pay it online in a couple of clicks, and everything is documented in one place. Invoices are due upon receipt. Square sends up to four automatic reminders for anything unpaid; those reminders are the only payment notices you will get, so please keep an eye on your inbox.
What is a Content Management System (CMS)?
A CMS is a software application that lets website owners create, organize, and update their content without coding knowledge. WordPress is a popular CMS that allows you to easily customize design, add pages, upload media, and manage your site's structure.
